The award for outstanding achievements in basic entomological research is named after the great Danish zoologist Johann Christian Fabricius.

Donated in 1941 by Dr Adolf Müller (Berlin), Otto Bang-Haas (Dresden) and Manfred Koch (Dresden) for "outstanding achievements in the field of entomology" (DEG) [see comm. DEG 10 (9/10): 88–91, 12.12.1941; revised version: comm. DEG 26(3): 40–42, 15.7.1967].
